Cowboys' Trey Lance on Working Out at HS: I'd 'Feel Guilty If' Doing Something Else
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance is taking any opportunity he can get to supplement his offseason workouts ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
ESPN's Todd Archer wrote how the Cowboys backup was throwing at Colleyville Heritage High School in June after the team's offseason program wrapped up.
For Lance, he was happy to further his on-field training regardless of the location.

"I've got no reason not to [be here]," he said to Archer. "I think of it that way. I guess I'm not in any position to have any slip-ups or anything like that, so for me, it's a no-brainer. I feel healthy. I feel great. And every time I come out here, I get better. So it's one of those things where I would feel guilty if I was out there doing something else."
The 2021 first-round pick seemingly heard his head coach loud and clear.
"He needs reps and you're trying to give him as many reps as you can throughout this offseason program," the Cowboys' Mike McCarthy told reporters in May. "He will take a large part of the preseason, that's the design. Him and I talk about preseason quite often. That's what we're building towards."
Lance hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since September 2022 and has just four starts under his belt. The timing of his trade complicated his adjustment process with the Cowboys, too, since he arrived in late August when the preseason was pretty much over.
Dak Prescott is firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback, but the Cowboys know all too well they're one stroke of misfortune away from having to shift gears. Prescott was limited to five starts in 2020 due to a compound ankle fracture and then he missed five games in 2022 because of a thumb injury.
It sounds like Lance is doing everything to ensure he'll be ready to answer the call if he's thrust into the QB1 role.
