American Century Golf: Aaron Rodgers, Travis Kelce Day 1 Tee Times, TV Schedule

Kristopher KnoxJul 12, 2024

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are NFL stars, but they're no strangers to the world of golf. Both have participated in the American Century Championship before, and each has made an appearance in Capital One's The Match series.

This weekend, Rodgers and Kelce will join a star-studded list of pro athletes and celebrities in the 2024 edition of the American Century Championship. As always, the annual tournament will be held at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada.

Defending champion and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry won't be in this year's field, as he's preparing for the Olympics with Team USA. Former champions Tony Romo, Mardy Fish and Mark Mulder will vie for the title.

The action is scheduled to kick off Friday morning and should provide fans with a fun-filled three days of golf. This year's tournament will benefit the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.

Here's a look at everything you need to know ahead of Day 1.

For casual golf fans unfamiliar with the American Century Championship, things may look a little different on Friday. While most tournaments use stroke or match play, this event uses a modified Stableford scoring format with points awarded for each hole as follows:

  • 10 Points: Albatross (three under par)
  • 8 Points: Hole-in-One
  • 6 Points: Eagle
  • 3 Points: Birdie
  • 1 Point: Par
  • 0 Points: Bogey
  • -2 Points: Double Bogey or Worse

The 54-hole tournament, which takes place annually on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, also features events like a long-drive challenge, hole-in-one-challenge and celebrity chip challenge.

The fun of seeing the play and interactions of celebrities and non-golf athletes are notable draws.

"It's just a great opportunity to test yourself and come together with other golf geeks from different disciplines and people we don't get to see," actor Don Cheadle told Ed Easton Jr. of Chiefs Wire.

This means that fans should have plenty of reasons to tune in, even if the current groups aren't high atop the leaderboard. Of course, the race to win the tournament will carry its own intrigue as well.

Curry won't be there to defend his title, but Romo and Mulder will each be vying for his fourth title. Fish won the tournament in 2020 and finished second behind Curry last year.

Rodgers is still looking for his first victory in Tahoe, but he did win the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am alongside Ben Silverman. He also finished fifth in last year's American Century Championship.

While Travis Kelce finished 71st at last year's tournament, he did win the long-drive contest. He and brother Jason Kelce should make for an entertaining watch, even if neither is in the hunt on Sunday.

Regardless of who wins and how everyone fares, the 2024 American Century Championship should be another memorable one.
