Under Armour All-America Game 2012: Re-Ranking the Top 10 Classes After the Game
The UA game is a wrap and we had about six prospects announce their commitments. The two biggest, obviously, were both Cyrus Jones and Landon Collins to Alabama.
Could these two players actually push Alabama into the top spot? Who fell out of the top 10? Which schools got re-shuffled? Why am I writing questions?
I have no idea. Anyways, here are the current top 10 recruiting classes, post-UA game style.
10. Notre Dame
1 of 10The Irish didn't net any finds tonight, but Ronald Darby, their class headliner, played solid.
This was not the season we all expected for the Golden Domers, but this recruiting cycle has gone pretty well. Aside from being in on several 5-star prospects left on the board, the Irish have 17 pledges, and three of them are 5-star players.
They also have seven 4-star players committed and are not done. The headliner again is CB/ATH Ronald Darby, but this class has a wealth of talent.
9. Georgia
2 of 10The Dawgs lost out on Chaz Elder tonight, but they're not in bad shape.
Georgia has 15 commitments, but it's a solid class. Three players are top-100-caliber recruits in RB Keith Marshall, OT John Theus and DT Jonathan Taylor.
Marshall and Theus are two of the top 15 to 20 recruits in the nation. DE Leonard Floyd is also one to watch. Mark Richt started this season on the hot seat and now is on par for a top-15 class.
8. Texas A&M
3 of 10No big news for the Aggies tonight as things remain the same.
Kevin Sumlin is going to have to work a bit to keep some of the 24 commits A&M has. Nine are 4-star (or higher) prospects, including RB Trey Williams, QB Matt Davis and LB Corey Thompson.
Thompson, Williams and WR Bralon Addison have all reduced their commitments to soft verbals, which is not the best thing for Sumlin. But it's not out of the question for all three to stick it out with the Aggies.
7. Ohio State
4 of 10OSU struck out on Cyrus Jones tonight, but Noah Spence looked awesome.
Urban Meyer has led the Buckeyes' surge into the top 10, as it was iffy whether they'd be in the top 25 before he was named coach. Meyer has gotten OSU to the 19-commitment clip and has four 5-star prospects in the class.
Six other 4-star players are also committed. Headliners include 5-star DEs Spence and Adolphus Washington, DT Tommy Schutt and RBs Warren Ball and Brionte Dunn.
6. Michigan
5 of 10Michigan didn't really have too much poppin' from tonight, Joe Bolden looked solid, though.
I told my father the other night that Brady Hoke has done a fantastic job in just one season at Michigan. He won a BCS bowl game, competed for a Big Ten title, won 11 games and is on track for a top-10 recruiting class.
Big Blue was left for dead when Rich Rodriguez was fired and Hoke was the third choice in Ann Arbor. Now he has 24 commitments, and 14 of them are 4-stars or higher.
5. Clemson
6 of 10The Orange Bowl didn't go as planned, but there's always next year right?
Dabo Swinney started this year on the hot seat, but you kept hearing and getting a feeling of quiet confidence from him, his staff and his players.
On the trail, Swinney has 20 commitments, and nine are 4-star recruits. That's good quality, and I even think DB Travis Blanks could be a 5-star guy.
4. Florida
7 of 10Nothing bleeping on the UF radar commitment-wise, but Gainesville loved the scene of watching four of their commitments doing the Gator Chomp in unison.
Florida could end up with the No. 1 class if things shake out right. It's in on some of the top uncommitted prospects all over the country and will likely land several of them.
For now, the Gators have 18 commitments, and 11 of them are 4-star (or higher) prospects, including 5-star players Brian Poole and D.J. Humphries, a CB and OT, respectively. Will Muschamp is getting it done on the trail.
3. Florida State
8 of 10I'm listing FSU at No. 3 because Mario Edwards and Jameis Winston don't appear as locked in on the 'Noles as before. I slightly expect Edwards to sign elsewhere, which after this week and tonight's game would be a crushing blow to the FSU program.
Edwards is a future star.
He checked in at the Under Armour Game practices at 6'4", 297 pounds, as a DE. Winston is the top QB on my board. Even P.J. Williams is looking around some. However, technically, FSU holds 15 commitments, and the class is stocked with talent.
2. Alabama (I Thought About Putting Them No.1 After Tonight, Cut Me Some Slack)
9 of 10I thought about it. Long and hard. I really did. I was serious about putting Alabama No. 1 as they learned tonight that 5-star S and 4-star ATH Cyrus Jones are coming to Tuscaloosa.
Bama is doing it big on the trail this year—like it always does. The Tide have 24 commitments and 14 players who are at least 4-stars or higher.
The two headliners are LB Reggie Ragland and FS Eddie Williams. OL Alphonse Taylor, at 6'6", 340 pounds, switched from FSU, plus Alabama got T.J. Yeldon to switch from Auburn.
This class is stocked...like No.1 quality stocked...however...
1. Texas
10 of 10The Longhorns are holding on to the No. 1 spot, but we'll see come NSD.
Texas has 25 commitments, and 17 are rated 4-stars or higher. RB Johnathan Gray was one of the best players on the field tonight as was DT Malcom Brown.
Top names include WR Cayleb Jones, OG Curtis Riser, QB Connor Brewer, LB Peter Jinkens, OTs Kennedy Estelle and Camrhon Hughes and former Oklahoma State commit WR/DB Kendall Sanders.
