Hot Takes on Grizzlies' Cam Spencer vs. 76ers' Jared McCain with Zach Edey Out

The Memphis Grizzlies won their Summer League matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night in dramatic fashion after Jaylen Wells hit a game-winner as time expired, securing an 87-85 victory.

The game didn't feature Grizzlies' first-round pick Zach Edey, but second-rounder Cam Spencer picked up the slack, posting an impressive 18 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while Wells added a game-high 27 points.

For the Sixers, rookie first-rounder Jared McCain was impressive again, notching 12 points and four assists, while second-round center Adem Bona added five blocks.

After the game, fans and pundits on social media praised the rookies:

Granted, it remains to be seen what sort of playing time will be available for all three players come the NBA's regular season.

Spencer is only on a two-way contract and the Grizzlies have a lot of guard options ahead of him on the depth chart, so he probably won't see the court much for the team this season. Granted, that deal could eventually be converted to a full roster spot if he continues to impress.

McCain, on the other hand, figures to feature in some capacity for the Sixers this season off the bench. While Philly will be in win-now mode, the team isn't exactly loaded with lead guards behind Tyrese Maxey at the moment.

It's possible that Eric Gordon and McCain could be the first two guards off the bench for the Sixers, though it seems more likely that the team will add another option or two on minimum contracts. Still, McCain has looked NBA ready and should be able to carve out a role for himself, however minor.

Bona will head into the season as Philly's No. 3 center, behind Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond. Given Embiid's injury history, however, it's likely that Bona will be called upon to play a role during the regular season.
