Team Croatia: NBA's Ivica Zubac, Dario Šarić Acted in Self-Defense in Bar Fight Video
The Croatian Basketball Federation released remarks to TMZ Sports stating that Ivica Zubac and Dario Šarić were acting in self-defense during an early morning bar fight Monday outside Athens after Croatia's loss to host Greece in an Olympic qualifying matchup.
"While hanging out at a club in Athens, some of our players were verbally and then physically attacked, prompting them to defend themselves," the CBF told TMZ Sports. "The incident was brief, thanks to the quick intervention of the club's security staff."
Michael J. Babcock of TMZ Sports released some video from the confrontation at the Bolivar Beach Bar.
The CBF explained that Team Croatia members went out following a farewell dinner after the end of their attempt to make the Olympics. Greece is moving on to the Summer Games after its 80-69 win over Croatia.
Per TMZ Sports, police were not involved in the matter. Zubac and Šarić have also not released any statements.
The 27-year-old Zubac has played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers since 2016. He averaged 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Clips last year.
The 30-year-old Šarić has played for five NBA teams since 2016. He's averaging 10.6 points per game for his career and is now a member of the Denver Nuggets after signing a two-year deal worth $10.6 million.
