LeBron James: We Will 'Never, Ever Forget' Bronny Getting Drafted by Lakers
LeBron James reflected on the Los Angeles Lakers' decision to select his son, Bronny James, with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft.
"For it to happen with us all being together and him being able to hear his name called in the NBA draft, it's like, a moment that we will never, ever forget," the 39-year-old said in an interview with ESPN's Dave McMenamin (0:55 mark).
Per McMenamin, the James family received the news of the No. 55 choice while at an intimate dinner party in New York. The NBA's all-time leading scorer led the group in a champagne toast to commemorate the occasion and was "very emotional" due to the weight of the moment.
After the younger James was selected, the Lakers signed him to a four-year rookie contract worth $7.9 million. On the same day, Los Angeles brought back his father by handing him a two-year, $104 million deal that included a player option as well as a no-trade clause.
In addition to the pair becoming the first active father-son duo in NBA history, they'll also be sharing the court as teammates during the 2024-25 season.
While the former USC guard signed a standard contract to join the team instead of a two-way deal, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Bronny is expected to spend the majority of his rookie season with the South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles' G League affiliate.
Still, he could end up seeing some regular-season action alongside his father after the two shared an unforgettable moment on draft night.
