Lakers' LeBron James on Klay, DeRozan, Valančiūnas Rumors: 'It Takes 2 to Tango'
After the Los Angeles Lakers failed to secure a handful of key free agent targets, star LeBron James was candid about the situation.
Per ESPN's Dave McMenamin, James said that missing out on free agents is "part of the business."
"It takes two to tango," James said. "I think our front office, our coaching staff, they tried to do the job that they wanted to do or tried to get guys to come and it didn't happen. And that's OK. That's part of the business. I've been in this business long enough to know that sometimes it happens, sometimes it don't.

KD Burner Saga Was 'Distraction'
"So we don't sit here and lie about or cry about it. We move on and Klay's a great player. Obviously DeMar's a great player. Valanciunas was one of those guys who ended up going to Washington, was someone that was in talks with us, but we move on to see how we continue to get better. I'm looking forward to this fall when I get back out there."
According to McMenamin, James was willing to take a pay cut in order for the Lakers to add an "impact player." The list included Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valančiūnas and James Harden, all of whom signed with teams other than the Lakers.
Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks, Harden re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, DeRozan signed with the Sacramento Kings and Valančiūnas signed with the Washington Wizards.
Thompson, Harden and DeRozan all signing with teams in the West is especially concerning for the Lakers as those teams stand in the way of Los Angeles winning another title. While several teams in the West have gotten stronger, the Lakers have stayed relatively the same this offseason.
Los Angeles has yet to make any major offseason moves, and the best free agents available have now signed with new teams. If the Lakers want to improve this offseason, they'll likely have to do it through the trade market.
