Bulls, Kings Updated Rosters, Salary Cap After Rumored DeMar DeRozan Sign-and-Trade
DeMar DeRozan has found his free agency destination.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi reported that DeRozan will be heading to the Sacramento Kings as part of a sign-and-trade that will also see Harrison Barnes head to the San Antonio Spurs while Chris Duarte and two second-round picks will head back to the Chicago Bulls.
Wojnarowski also reported that DeRozan's deal is for three-years and $74 million.
The average annual value for the deal will be for $24.6 million. Per Spotrac, this will put the Kings over the first apron and less than a million under the second apron.
Here's a look at how the Kings roster could shape up for 2024-25.

The Bulls will have $13 million in first apron space and $23 million in second apron space, per Spotrac.

DeRozan will be a welcome addition to a rising Kings team. Sacramento went 46-36 and fell in the play-in tournament to the New Orleans Pelicans. This comes after it went 48-34 in 2022-23 and fell in the first round of the playoffs.
That was the Kings first trip to the postseason since 2005-06, and the franchise hopes DeRozan can slot in as an impact player alongside Sabonis and Fox. For the Bulls in 2023-24, DeRozan averaged 24 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 79 games.
He was not expected to re-sign with Chicago, who adds Duarte as a bench piece. He averaged 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists for the Kings in 2023-24. The Bulls went 39-43 in 2023-24 and fell in the play-in tournament.
DeRozan's presence in Sacramento will hopefully bring stability to the franchise, while Chicago commits to shaping the roster differently going forward.
