Klay Thompson said goodbye to the Golden State Warriors in an Instagram post on Friday.
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life," Thompson wrote in the caption. "It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day 1. I really just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the region."
Kevin Durant, who played alongside Thompson in Golden State from 2016-19, also responded to the veteran's post calling him a "Bay Area God" and wishing him well in his next chapter:
The five-time All-Star spent the first 13 years of his career with the organization after he was selected by Golden State with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft.
On Monday, Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year deal worth $50 million as part of a sign-and-trade agreement with the Warriors.
Golden State received two second-round picks from Dallas in exchange for Thompson's new contract (via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski).
His 2023-24 campaign was tumultuous, as his scoring average of 17.9 points per game represented his lowest mark since the 2013-14 season. Thompson also bounced back and forth between the starting lineup and the bench, as he appeared in 14 games as a reserve.
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Kendra Andrews reported on Wednesday that he was "miserable" throughout the past year as negotiations with the team on a new contract weren't progressing. Thompson "felt disrespected" that the Warriors didn't offer him an extension after their title victory in 2022.
However, it seems that there isn't any animosity between both sides after the move to Dallas. Wojnarowski even revealed that Golden State wanted to "help" Thompson pursue sign-and-trade opportunities before he joined the Mavericks.
The team also revealed a plan to eventually retire his jersey in a statement released after the agreement.
Thompson was an integral part of a Warriors team that won four championships from 2015 through 2022. He earned two All-NBA nods and currently ranks No. 6 on the team's all-time scoring list.
Although his time with Golden State came to an end on Monday, it's clear that he can already look back on his tenure with the organization fondly.
