Browns' Top Trade Candidates Ahead of 2024 Training Camp

Joe TanseyJul 1, 2024

The Cleveland Browns have one of the more fascinating offensive depth charts in the NFL going into training camp.

The Browns have an abundance of veteran players at quarterback, running back and wide receiver.

That is great for competition this summer, but it will also play a role in the NFL trade market because not all of those players can earn significant roles in 2024.

For example, one of the veteran running backs on the roster could be relegated to a small role if Nick Chubb looks strong in his return from an ACL injury.

The same can be said at quarterback, where Jameis Winston, Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson are backing up Deshaun Watson.

Jerome Ford

Jerome Ford was relied on to be Cleveland's top running back in 2023 once Nick Chubb went down with his season-ending injury.

In 2024, Ford could lose out on snaps with Chubb back and two other veteran running backs on the roster.

The Browns signed D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines, and while it would be easy to cut them if they do not perform, they signed both players for a reason.

Ford only averaged four yards per carry last season and found the end zone on just four occasions. It is an okay sample size, but he can be outperformed by Foreman or Hines.

Teams across the NFL are always looking for running back depth and you could argue Ford has the most trade value among the Browns' depth because of his 804-yard season.

A strong preseason out of Foreman and/or Hines could allow the Browns to maximize Ford's value and land a mid-round draft pick.

Elijah Moore

Elijah Moore feels like he has been on the trade block for two or three years.

The fourth-year wide receiver was shipped from the New York Jets to Cleveland last offseason.

Moore caught 59 of his 104 targets for 640 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Browns were not satisfied with their wide receiver production and landed Jerry Jeudy in the offseason trade market.

Moore is the No. 4 pass-catcher on the roster right now behind Amari Cooper, David Njoku and Jeudy.

He does not have a high ceiling in Cleveland, and he could be eclipsed by one of the Cedric Tillman, David Bell or Jamari Thrash in training camp.

Moore has a lot to prove this summer, and if he performs well, the Browns may opt to trade him to make room for their younger wide outs.

Tyler Huntley

Tyler Huntley went from the Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback to the No. 3 guy on the Cleveland roster.

The Browns have more than enough insurance for Deshaun Watson with Huntley, Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson all on the roster.

Cleveland can't keep all four of its quarterbacks. Winston was signed to be Watson's backup, so he may not be available on the trade market given Watson's spotty health history of late.

Huntley should be made available via trade to potentially fill a backup role elsewhere. Thompson-Robinson can serve as the No. 3 guy. It is rare that the top two quarterbacks on a roster are injured at the same time.

The Browns should have a healthy competition for the backup role, but if Huntley can't surpass Winston on the depth chart, a handful of teams should inquire about his services because Cleveland's No. 3 is better than the backup on some squads.
