Video: Kings Unveil Return of Wayne Gretzky-Era Inspired Logo for 2024 NHL Season
The Los Angeles Kings are turning back the clock for the 2024-25 season.
Los Angeles revealed on Thursday the return of a throwback logo for the upcoming campaign that will honor the franchise's rich history. That history includes the great Wayne Gretzky, who played for the Kings for seven-plus seasons from 1988-89 until they traded him during the 1995-96 season.

"The thing about history, the more things change, the more they stay the same," the video said before adding, "but then again, it's just a logo."
The video ends with the tagline "legacy moves us forward" after a highlight montage of some of the greatest moments in Kings' history.
Los Angeles tapping into that history is notable, as it is looking to return to some of those elevated heights after three straight disappointing first-round exits. The Pacific Division team hasn't advanced past the first round since its run to the Stanley Cup title in 2014.
That championship marked a third consecutive appearance in the Stanley Cup Final. It won two championships in those three years and remained one of the gold standards of the league.
However, the Kings have fallen behind the Edmonton Oilers, Vegas Golden Knights and others in recent years. Perhaps remembering that history and dressing the part can lead to a turnaround next season and beyond.
Yet the new logo goes even further back than the Stanley Cups and resembles the look the team wore in the 1990s.
Gretzky was the main attraction in those years considering he led the league in points three times and assists five times during his run with the Kings. The Hall of Famer didn't win any of his four career Stanley Cups with Los Angeles, but he made an indelible mark on the franchise as an all-time icon.
And the new logo will surely bring back some of those memories.
