Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been placed on the 15-day injury list, the team announced Sunday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed later on Sunday that Yamamoto had been diagnosed with a strained rotator cuff. While it's not believed to be a season-ending injury, Roberts noted that Yamamoto will miss "some time."

Juan Toribio of MLB.com had previously reported that Yamamoto was dealing with soreness and tightness around his right triceps area following his 106-pitch outing against the New York Yankees last weekend.

Yamamoto pitched two innings Saturday in a 7-2 loss against the Kansas City Royals, allowing one hit and a walk, and picking up one strikeout.

In his first season with the Dodgers, Yamamoto has started 14 games, posting a 6-2 record with a 2.92 ERA and 84 strikeouts. Following his offseason addition, Los Angeles has recorded the fourth-best team ERA in the majors at 3.31.

Yamamoto was scheduled to start against the Texas Rangers on Thursday, but the Dodgers pushed him back a couple of days. He ultimately started on Saturday but only managed a few innings.

"I did have tightness and I was aware of it [during the bullpen session], but it wasn't serious at that point," Yamamoto said after Saturday's contest, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "As I was pitching, it started growing," Yamamoto said. "I let coaches know, and we decided to pull me."

With Yamamoto now sidelined, the Dodgers will look to hold their spot at the top of the NL West without the star. While Los Angeles has had a great season overall, it has struggled this week after winning two of three games against the Yankees in New York.

The Dodgers dropped two of three games against the Rangers before losing Saturday's matchup with the Royals. Los Angeles will face Kansas City in the third game of the series on Sunday.
