Joey Bosa Spoke to Brother, 49ers' Nick About Playing Together amid NFL Trade Rumors

After being the subject of trade rumors earlier this offseason, Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Joey Bosa understands that there's a likelihood that he won't get his wish of remaining with the franchise for his entire career.

Bosa revealed to Kris Rhim of ESPN that he and his brother, San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa, have had conversations about teaming up together in the future.

"It'd be cool at some point," he said. "I always thought of myself being somebody that will play here and retire here, which I think not many people do on one team, and I think would be a cool thing to accomplish, but you never know. I'm going to worry about this year first."

Many believed that Bosa would be one of the cap casualties for the Chargers this offseason, as he has two years remaining on the five-year, $135 million contract extension he signed in 2020. However, he took a pay cut to remain with the team this year, as his restructured deal will pay him a guaranteed base salary of $8 million in 2024, and has no guaranteed money in 2025.

Bosa, who played a combined 14 games over the last two seasons due to injuries, said he's more concerned about winning than his salary at this stage in his career.

"I want to win. I want to be on this team. I want another shot with the guys in this room, especially Khalil [Mack]," Bosa said. "And winning football games is more important to me right now than making some extra money. So I think we have a great opportunity here, and who knows, maybe I'll have a great year this year, and then things can change down the road."

If this turns out to be Bosa's final year in Los Angeles, he will undoubtedly command a ton of interest on the open market, as he's still one of the premiere pass-rushers in the league when healthy. The 49ers likely wouldn't pass up the opportunity to pursue him and pair him with his talented brother, who was the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

The Bosa brothers on the same team would be fun to watch, but NFL fans will have to wait a while before it becomes a possibility.
