Patriots' Drake Maye Praised by Jacoby Brissett: 'Seeing His Progression Come Alive'
As the New England Patriots begin mandatory minicamp on Monday, veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett already likes what he's seen so far from rookie signal-caller Drake Maye.
"Every day he's gotten better," Brissett told reporters. "The good thing about it is, [he's] not like, 'Oh, I got it right now,' not thinking about it. He's just constantly trying to find ways to get better, making some nice throws out there and you're seeing his progression come alive."

Maye was selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The 21-year-old is next in line as New England's quarterback of the future after Mac Jones was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this offseason. Brissett gives him a mentor to learn behind until he's ready to assume the starting role.
ESPN's Mike Reiss noted that Maye appears to be moving up the depth chart and made a few eye-popping plays in Monday's practice:
Brissett added that Maye has made improvements in his skills on the field as well as his command of the huddle.
"He's made tremendous strides, not only calling the plays, [but also] footwork, throwing the ball and his overall understanding of this offense," Brissett said.
It sounds like Maye could surprise many this year by having a real chance at winning the starting job as a rookie.
