Knicks Fined $25K for Failing to Accurately Report Mitchell Robinson's Injury Status
The NBA fined the New York Knicks $25,000 for failing to accurately report center Mitchell Robinson's injury status before their March 27 game against the Toronto Raptors.
Robinson was listed as out on the injury report but wound up playing 12 minutes in his first action since Dec. 8.
According to league rules, teams are required to update their injury reports within a reasonable amount of time ahead of the game. This rule is in place so that teams cannot list a player as out or playing and gain a competitive advantage by misleading their opponent.
The NBA previously fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 for a similar violation regarding star center Joel Embiid. The Sixers played Embiid 29 minutes in his return, which may have played a part in the punishment. The league acknowledged Philadelphia's history of violating injury reporting rules was also a factor.
The Knicks do not have a similar history of skirting the rules, and Robinson's return was relatively brief in comparison. He finished with eight points, two rebounds and two blocks as the Knicks earned a 145-101 blowout win over the Raptors.
New York has continued bringing along Robinson slow in his return to the lineup, playing him no more than 20 minutes in a game.
"At least my defense is kind of there," Robinson said. "I've still got a little bit to work on with that."
