BCS Bowl Picks: Alabama Will Cause National Championship Drama with Win
The Alabama Crimson Tide will win the BCS Championship Game and cause a ton of drama by doing so.
Well, that’s the ideal scenario for sportswriters looking for stories and college football fans hoping for a playoff system or at least some sort of change to the BCS system.
The Associated Press voters are certainly ready to rebel against the contractual obligation of the Bowl Championship Series to make the winner of the game the automatic No. 1 and undisputed holder of the national title in their system.
ESPN.com news services reported that the AP polled 60 of their voters on these three questions.
"Do you expect to vote the winner of the Alabama-LSU game No. 1?
Would you consider voting LSU No. 1 even if it lost?
Would you consider voting another team -- i.e., Oklahoma State or Stanford -- No. 1?
"
They received a variety of answers.
One said, "Anything is a possibility among the top three. And should be. Otherwise, why would we bother?"
Another wrote, "Unless Alabama absolutely dominates LSU and leaves no doubt that it is a superior football team, I will be voting for LSU."
One more said, "If Alabama wins, I'm voting the Tide (No.) 1."
There are even more quotes to peruse in the above link and it just goes to show how split voters and fans really are on this season.
The only way to avoid most controversy is to have LSU win, but that just goes to show there should not have been a rematch and the system needs to be overhauled.
If ‘Bama should win, it’s going to cause a whole mess of problems and the AP might chop the national championship up three ways for all we know.
However, it would certainly get a lot more people clamoring for change and more vocal about forcing the BCS’ hand and getting something done.
That is a good thing. Anyone who wants change and who wants this awful, broken system currently in place to go should be rooting for the Tide to roll on Monday.
