Logan Paul Beats Randy Orton, Kevin Owens to Retain WWE US Title at WrestleMania 40
Logan Paul defeated Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in a Triple Threat match on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40 on Sunday to retain the United States Championship.
However, the social media star was grateful to the help of fellow YouTuber IShowSpeed, who pulled him out of the ring as Orton was about to attack.
Paul then delivered a frog splash on Owens to claim the victory.
Paul beat WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio for the U.S. title at Crown Jewel in November thanks to some help from Santos Escobar, which led to a tournament to determine The Maverick's first challenger.
Owens got past Austin Theory, Carmelo Hayes and Escobar to win the tourney, setting up a title match between Paul and KO at the Royal Rumble.
During the build toward their bout, Paul and Owens made their disdain for each other quite clear. KO didn't like that The Maverick jumped the line after being in the wrestling business for such a short amount of time, while Paul poked fun at the fact that he was already a champion, while Owens was chasing him despite being a veteran.
Paul tried every dirty trick in the book at the Royal Rumble, including using brass knuckles, but Owens was able to intercept them and used them against his rival. However, the referee saw the weapon in the former universal champ's possession and disqualified him.
Coming out of the Royal Rumble, Paul and Owens both qualified for the men's Elimination Chamber match at the same-titled premium live event in Perth, Australia. The stakes were high, as the winner would challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.
The match came down to Orton and Drew McIntyre, but in retaliation for The Viper eliminating him with an RKO, Paul hit him with brass knuckles, allowing the Scot to pin him.
Those antics put Paul firmly in Orton's crosshairs in the weeks that followed, and Owens wasn't done with him either.
Owens spared Orton from an attack at the hands of Paul, Theory and Grayson Waller on SmackDown a few weeks ago, and general manager Nick Aldis took the opportunity to reveal who Paul would be facing at WrestleMania after the titleholder complained about not having an opponent.
Aldis declared that Paul would defend against both Orton and Owens in a Triple Threat, much to the social media star's chagrin.
Paul's back was against the wall against a pair of accomplished veterans and former world champions, but just as he has on several occasions during his young WWE career, he found a way to escape with the win on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
