Dak Prescott's $59.45M Salary Cap Hit Hasn't Impacted Cowboys' FA, Stephen Jones Says
While quarterback Dak Prescott holds a $59.4 million salary cap hit this season, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones has not impacted the team in free agency, per ESPN's Todd Archer.
Prescott is entering the final year of a four-year, $160 million contract and will receive a base salary of $29 million this season. While he and the Cowboys haven't reached an extension yet, Jones said there have been positive discussions and Prescott has been flexible in working with the team. He also said that contract discussions with Prescott have been a priority this offseason.
"I feel like we are able to cut and shoot," Jones said. "Dak's been willing to work with us. We've had good discussions about him and his contract. He's all-in in working with us, and we've had personal discussions with Dak as well. Other than that, that's all we'll say about that, our negotiations with him. We want to keep that private. Won't get into timelines, but certainly a priority of ours."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
The Cowboys have been somewhat quiet through the first week of free agency. They were the last team to bring in a free agent from another team, signing former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Eric Kendricks to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Dallas also re-signed cornerback Jourdan Lewis and long snapper Trent Sieg.
Though the Cowboys' moves have been few, they have been strategic so far. Dallas managed to fill a void at the linebacker position by signing Kendricks, who had 117 tackles last season. With uncertainty around linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, who is expected to retire amid neck injuries, bringing in Kendricks gives the Cowboys more stability at the position.
There are still plenty of questions to be answered for the Cowboys this offseason though, with one of the biggest being at the running back spot after Tony Pollard signed with the Tennessee Titans. Just Duece Vaughn, Malik Davis and Hunter Luepke had carries last season, and Jones said Dallas lacks an "established back in the organization right now." The Cowboys could attempt to sign a running back in free agency—though several big names have already landed with new teams—or they could pursue a running back in the draft.
However Dallas chooses to handle free agency, having the team's top player, Jones believes Prescott's salary cap hit won't be an issue.
