Bills Rumors: Dion Dawkins to Sign 3-Year, $60.5M Contract Extension

Mike ChiariMar 11, 2024

Prior to the start of the NFL's new league year on Wednesday, Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkins reportedly agreed to a contract extension with the Buffalo Bills on Monday.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dawkins is expected to sign a three-year, $60.5 million deal to remain in Buffalo.

After initially making it seem like he was potentially going to be cut or traded in a post on X, Dawkins seemed to indicate that he was joking in a subsequent post, noting that he is "Buffalo for life."

Per Schefter, Dawkins' new deal with the Bills will make him the fourth-highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL.

Dawkins, 29, has been named a Pro Bowler in each of the past three seasons, and he has been a regular starter for the Bills at left tackle since early in his rookie season in 2017.

Originally selected by Buffalo in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Temple, Dawkins has played in 112 of a possible 114 regular-season games during his career, starting 106 of them.

Dawkins has also made 11 playoff starts for a Bills team that has won four consecutive AFC East titles and reached the playoffs in five straight seasons.

In 2024, Dawkins had been set to enter the final year of a four-year extension he signed with Buffalo in 2020, but the latest extension ensures he will remain in Western New York even longer.

The extension also figures to save the Bills some money against the salary cap this year, which is significant given the moves they have had to make in order to get under the cap and create money to be players in free agency.

One of the players the Bills released last week was center Mitch Morse, who was part of a Bills starting offensive line that played nearly every snap together last season.

That move will likely result in Connor McGovern moving from left guard to center and David Edwards taking over as the starting left guard, but Dawkins will provide some continuity on the left side.

Dawkins has been superstar quarterback Josh Allen's blindside protector for his entire NFL career, and that will continue to be the case for years to come.
