Patriots Exec Eliot Wolf: Team Will Have 'Less of a Hard-Ass Vibe' Without Belichick
The New England Patriots are stepping into a new era following the departure of longtime head coach Bill Belichick, and director of scouting Eliot Wolf admitted that there will be a culture shift in 2024.
Wolf told reporters Tuesday there will be "less of a hard-ass vibe" in New England next season and beyond, per MassLive's Mark Daniels.
Belichick ran a tight ship, and he was known for being one of the toughest head coaches in all of football.

He has long been known for instituting the "Patriot Way," which led to an unprecedented amount of success in his 24 seasons at the helm, including six Super Bowl titles, nine Super Bowl appearances and 17 AFC East titles.
The Patriots were dominant for two decades, building a dynasty that might never be matched unless Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs can continue their recent run of success.
However, New England has been crippled by inconsistent quarterback play since Tom Brady's departure following the 2019 campaign, and the Patriots have missed the playoffs in three of the last four seasons as a result.
The 2023 campaign was the lowest point of Belichick's tenure in Foxborough. The team finished with a 4-13 record, its worst mark since it won only five games in 2000.
The Patriots opted to part ways with Belichick after the 2023 season, and reports surfaced detailing some of the cracks in his leadership, specifically within the quarterback room.
One report stated that the longtime head coach and quarterback Mac Jones had a broken relationship with "nonexistent" communication. Another report stated that the quarterback room was toxic, which led to backup Bailey Zappe watching film in the receiver room.
The Patriots quickly named Jerod Mayo as Belichick's replacement, and the franchise is hoping the former linebackers coach will develop a healthier culture for the players moving forward.
Wolf appears confident that Mayo can do the job.
"We have leadership with Jerod Mayo that is going to be tremendous," Wolf told reporters. "He is just an unbelievable leader and developer of people, and I think that as we move forward with the new offense and defense, it's gonna be pretty special and exciting here."
The Patriots have a long offseason ahead, but building toward the future has already begun.
