Report: Michael Penix Jr. to Throw at Scouting Combine Ahead of 2024 NFL Draft
Michael Penix Jr. will reportedly look to improve his stock at the 2024 NFL scouting combine.
Jordan Reid of ESPN reported the Washington quarterback plans on throwing in Indianapolis as he looks to shake off a disappointing outing at the Senior Bowl. Penix chose not to play in the Senior Bowl game after a week of shaky performances in practice, which put his first-round status in question.
B/R's Scouting Department ranks Penix as the No. 66 overall prospect in the 2024 class and fifth-best quarterback. He was not listed as a first-round pick on their latest mock draft.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
Penix is coming off a sensational two-year run at Washington after beginning his college career at Indiana. He threw for 4,903 yards and 36 touchdowns against 11 interceptions during the regular season, finishing second behind LSU's Jayden Daniels in the Heisman race.
Washington made its first College Football Playoff and first national championship appearance with Penix at the helm before losing to Michigan. Penix struggled against a fierce Wolverines defense, completing 27 of 51 passes for one touchdown against two interceptions.
Disappointment did not end there. The Ringer's Danny Heifetz wrote Penix was "underwhelming" during Senior Bowl practices before bowing out of the game.
Penix already had his fair share of doubters given the fact he turns 24 years old in May and did not break out until his junior and senior seasons. He is just seven months younger than 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence and is more than two years older than Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.
Couple that with a long, winding release that will need to be shortened in the pros, it's fair for Penix to be nervous enough about his draft stock to fully participate in Indianapolis.
