MLB Rumors: Gio Urshela Interests Red Sox Amid Interest from Yankees, Mets, More
The Boston Red Sox have not made many headline moves this offseason, but they could add veteran infielder Gio Urshela before the start of the 2024 campaign.
Chris Cotillo of Mass Live reported Boston is one of the teams that has "expressed interest" in Urshela.
This comes after Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported earlier this month the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Miami Marlins were among the teams interested in the free agent.

There is likely some frustration in Boston at this point given the lack of splash moves compared to some of the additions from division rivals such as Juan Soto going to the Yankees and Corbin Burnes going to the Baltimore Orioles.
Cotillo noted it "remains relatively unlikely that the Red Sox will make major, impactful additions to their roster before Opening Day," but Urshela would at least represent some depth and be an addition after Rafael Devers criticized the front office.
"They need to make an adjustment to help us players to be in a better position to win," Devers said through a translator, per Steve Gardner of USA Today . "Everybody in this organization wants to win. We, as (players), want to win. I think they need to make an adjustment to help us win.
"I'm not saying that the team is not OK right now, but they need to be conscious of what are the (weaknesses) and what we need."
Devers is locked in as the third baseman, which has been Urshela's primary position throughout his career. However, Cotillo noted Boston sees him as a right-handed option at first base who could fill in for Devers on the hot corner if needed.
Urshela's best production came when he was a member of the Yankees from 2019 through 2021. He slashed .314/.355/.534 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI during the 2019 campaign and launched 13 long balls in 116 games in 2021.
However, he appeared in just 62 games for the Los Angeles Angels last season and slashed .299/.329/.374 with two home runs and 24 RBI.
The batting average was impressive, but he struggled to replicate his previous power and will look to bounce back for Boston or whichever team signs him in 2024.
