LeBron James Says He's 'Very Happy' Being on Lakers, Hopes to Stay with LAL
It doesn't seem like LeBron James is looking for a new home anytime soon.
During the Los Angeles Lakers star's media availability at NBA All-Star Weekend, he spoke about his current home and that he was content in where is is at the moment.
"I am a Laker and I am happy and have been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way," James said.
This comes after LeBron was involved in some rumors ahead of the NBA trade deadline, with a potential trade partner being the Golden State Warriors. His contract is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, although he does have a player option for 2024-25, and his comments show that he could potentially exercise that option or re-sign with the franchise this offseason.
Los Angeles is his third franchise, although it was his fourth scenery change in his career. He began his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, left his hometown team to join the Miami Heat in 2010, then returned to Cleveland in 2014 before he ultimately left for Los Angeles in 2018.
He has won four NBA Championships, including one with the Lakers in 2020, and remains one of the top talents in the league even at 39 years old. He is averaging 24.8 points, 7.8 assists and 7.2 rebounds in 48 games this season.
The Lakers are currently ninth in the Western Conference at 30-26 and will need a strong end of the season stretch in order to secure a favorable playoff path. Beyond that, James will have to decide how he wants his career to continue.
While his future is unknown, it at least appears as though the Lakers will remain his team for the foreseeable future.
