MVP Prediction: Jewell Loyd
4 of 4
Jewell Loyd was the leading scorer in the WNBA a season ago, averaging 24.7 points per game and adding 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and one steal. She is also one of the key members of Team USA's FIBA squad, joining Diana Taurasi, Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, among others.
While the spotlight will be on other celebrity participants, including Jennifer Hudson, C.J. Stroud and Micah Parsons, Loyd is an elite scorer and one of the best in the sport. She will have plenty of opportunities to either put the ball in the hoop or dish it to her teammates, setting them up to do the same.
Coaches Shannon Sharpe and 50 Cent will likely lean on her to lead the team and command the movement of the ball.
She averaged 35.4 minutes per game a season ago, and while she will likely not see nearly that amount of time in a celebrity exhibition, do not be surprised if she scores quickly and in bunches.
Stroud played high school basketball at Rancho Cucamonga, Metta World Peace is a former NBA champ and should be one of the favorites to win the MVP award, and Micah Parsons is an impressive athlete. But Loyd is arguably the best player on the floor by a wide margin, and if the opportunities come her way, she should add her name to a list of game MVPs that includes Kevin Hart (four times), Common and DK Metcalf.
