LSU's Angel Reese: I Love That Caitlin Clark and I Can Compete and 'Still Be Cool'
The rivalry between LSU's Angel Reese and Iowa's Caitlin Clark may have made national headlines during the 2023 women's NCAA Tournament championship game, but Reese says there are no hard feelings between the competitors.
"I love that we're able to compete and still be cool after, regardless of the outside noise," Reese told Amanda Lucci of Women's Health.
"People even say Magic and Larry Bird, that era and how it was. If that's who we are, then okay, cool.…I think we're both happy about what's going on."
Reese went viral last April after she taunted Clark using the same "you can't see me" taunt Clark had used against Louisville during an Elite Eight game that Iowa won earlier in the tournament.
The moment sparked a national debate and criticism of Reese that Clark later said wasn't deserved.
"I don't think Angel should be criticized at all," Clark told ESPN's Michael Voepel after LSU's championship win. "I'm just one that competes, and she competed... Angel is a tremendous, tremendous player. I have nothing but respect for her."
Reese and Clark have been competing against each other since high school, when they both played in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU.) Reese has previously expressed hope that the two will one day play for the same team.
For now, Reese and Clark are at least likely to remain in the same league. Clark, the anticipated No. 1 pick, and Reese are both likely first-round selections in the 2024 WNBA draft.
