NFL Rumors: Nathan Carroll, Son of Pete, Named Panthers' Passing Game Coordinator
The Carolina Panthers have hired Nathan Carroll as their new pass game coordinator, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The 36-year-old Carroll is the son of former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. He worked for the Seahawks from 2010-2023 in a variety of capacities, including wide receivers coach (2018-2021) and senior offensive assistant (2022-2023).
The elder Carroll's time with the Seahawks is over after team owner Jody Allen decided that a change at head coach was needed. That left the younger Carroll available to pursue other opportunities with the Seahawks hiring Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as their new head coach.

Now he's in Carolina reunited with new Panthers head coach Dave Canales, who worked for the Seahawks from 2010-2022 as their wide receivers coach (2010-2017), quarterbacks coach (2018-2019, 2022) and passing game coordinator (2020-2021).
Carroll is also back working in the same organization as Panthers general manager Dan Morgan, who worked in Seattle from 2010-2017, rising to the role of director of pro personnel (2015-2017).
Morgan, Canales, Carroll and new Panthers offensive coordinator Brad Idzik have important tasks ahead to resurrect a franchise that just went 2-15. The team has a franchise signal-caller in place in Bryce Young, but the ex-Alabama star struggled mightily in 2023, finishing 32th among qualifiers in quarterback rating and 30th in QBR.
In fairness to Young, one could argue the team was not well-positioned whatsoever to help him succeed, both in terms of the playcalling/schemes as well as the offensive personnel. Still, the Panthers have a lot of work to do to reboot a team that just finished 31st in scoring. Carroll will clearly play a big role in that effort.
