Nets Roasted by NBA Fans for 50-Point Loss to Jaylen Brown-Less Celtics
The Brooklyn Nets have reached new lows following the NBA's Feb. 8 trade deadline following the departures of Spencer Dinwiddie and Royce O'Neale.
On a night where the Celtics were without the likes of Jaylen Brown and Al Horford, Brooklyn fell to Boston 136-86 on Wednesday night at TD Garden, dropping their second straight game and four of their last five.
It marks the second-worst loss in franchise history and the largest loss since the 1978-79 season when the team was known as the New Jersey Nets and fell to the Houston Rockets by 52 points.
The only member of Brooklyn's starting lineup to hit double digits in scoring was Mikal Bridges, who finished with 10 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
Bench player Trendon Watford let the Nets with 15 points to go along with two rebounds and one assist.
The Celtics were dominant from start to finish, mounting a 68-32 lead into halftime. That allowed Boston to play many of its bench players in the second half, including Payton Pritchard, Oshae Brissett, Luke Kornet and Jordan Walsh.
Pritchard led the C's with 28 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Derrick White also notched 27 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win.
Jayson Tatum finished the night with 20 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
The Nets were ripped by fans on social media after the loss, with some even calling for head coach Jacque Vaughn to be fired:
The Nets fell to 21-32 on the season with the loss and now sit 11th in the Eastern Conference.
Brooklyn has little hope to make the playoffs this year, and perhaps a reset is in store for the franchise this summer as it looks to build a contender following the departures of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden over the last two seasons.
