Backstage WWE and AEW Rumors: Latest on Drew McIntyre, Bron Breakker, and More
Drew McIntyre is one of the most prominently featured Superstars on Raw, but as the Road to WrestleMania heats up and his involvement in a World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins becomes more possible, there are questions about his contractual status with WWE beyond April 6-7.
The latest on a new deal headlines this collection of wrestling rumors, which also features an update on Bron Breakker and the main roster, as well as a backstage return for a familiar face in All Elite Wrestling.
Drew McIntyre Contract Update
1 of 3Drew McIntyre may be scheduled for a WWE tour of Italy in May, but that doesn't mean he has signed a new deal with the company.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported that the Scot has not yet put pen to paper but both sides want to get a deal done and WWE believes he will be around for the long term.
However, it would behoove the company to get a deal done with the two-time WWE champion, who has emerged as the most engaging heel on TV over the last two or three months and is one win away from challenging Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40.
Taking the risk of featuring him prominently only to watch him go elsewhere is a mistake WWE has made before (Daniel Bryan in 2021) and one that it cannot afford to make at a time when depth is key.
Perhaps no one will know whether McIntyre has actually re-signed with the company until he hoists the World Heavyweight Championship at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on April 6-7.
Either way, The Scottish Warrior has hit a new level of excellence by way of his expert on-screen and social media trolling, and he should be a guy WWE builds around instead of lets slip away via free agency.
Bron Breakker-Main Roster Latest
2 of 3Johnson also reported that, despite his NXT Tag Team Championship victory with Baron Corbin over Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo on Tuesday, Bron Breakker is still expected to be called up to the main roster.
The 26-year-old has recently appeared on SmackDown, engaging in conversations with Triple H, SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis, and Raw GM Adam Pearce while weighing his contractual options.
Breakker, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner and a two-time NXT champion, recently impressed in the men's Royal Rumble match. He is, arguably, ready to headline WWE events right now and it can be argued that a call-up is overdue.
Where he fits given the logjam of talent on Mondays and Fridays remains to be seen, but he is one of three or four Superstars currently competing on Tuesdays who has evolved enough to shine alongside the best in WWE.
QT Marshall is All Elite...Again
3 of 3QT Marshall's departure from AEW was a short one.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that the 38-year-old has returned to the company as a vice president less than two months after leaving:
"Fightful has learned that QT Marshall is returning to All Elite Wrestling, but in a much different capacity. Sources indicated to Fightful that Marshall and AEW worked out their prior issues, and he'll be coming back in the VP role that he once held. However, he is not planned to return as an in-ring talent."
Sapp continued: "We're told that Marshall is free to wrestle outside of AEW, with the exception of WWE. The 38-year old Marshall hadn't wrestled since his AEW deal officially ended on December 31 until this past week's TCW show, but has shown off his physical transformation on Twitter."
Sapp also noted Marshall recently relaunched Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling, a company founded by the late Dusty Rhodes.
Marshall was a mainstay behind the scenes for AEW during the company's first four years of existence, so it's no surprise that there was mutual interest in reviving the relationship.
