Chiefs' Top Players to Avoid in 2024 NFL Free Agency
The newly-crowned two-time reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have a glaring offseason need.
Andy Reid's team must upgrade at wide receiver to give Patrick Mahomes a more well-rounded unit of pass-catchers.
The thought of Mahomes with an even deeper offense is frightful for any team attempting to win Super Bowl 59, but that could be the reality in Kansas City.
The Chiefs must find the right wide receiver to partner with Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce, and that may mean they become very selective in which players they target in the offseason.
Darnell Mooney

Darnell Mooney does not fit the profile of wide receiver the Chiefs should be after.
Mooney only had 400 receiving yards in his last two seasons with the Chicago Bears and he was not a reliable target in 2023.
Mooney hauled in just 31 of his 61 targets and he scored a single touchdown. The reception and touchdown totals were the lowest of his four-year career.
One could argue that Mooney would be a solid No. 3 target and deep threat on some rosters, but the Chiefs already have that with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Kansas City needs a more possession-based pass-catching threat who can bring in well over 50 percent of his targets to support Rice and Kelce.
Gabriel Davis

The Chiefs are more than familiar with Gabriel Davis' skill set, and while it would quite something to pluck a wide receiver from one of their biggest rivals in the AFC, it does not make sense to sign the free-agent wide receiver.
Davis had a catch percentage of 55 and 51 in his last two seasons in Buffalo with an increased work load.
The fourth-year player had 45 receptions on 81 targets in 2023, and although he had 746 yards and seven touchdowns, he was not consistent enough in the passing game.
Davis had four games with no receptions and two other contests with a single catch.
The Bills valued Davis' run blocking, but the Chiefs do not need that with the heavy personnel they already have in place.
Josh Reynolds

Josh Reynolds has a fascinating profile for any free-agent suitors to consider.
The veteran wide receiver had a career year with the Detroit Lions with 40 receptions, 608 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
However, the Chiefs are looking for players who can step up in the postseason and Reynolds had a few drops in the playoffs.
Those drops should not be the only things that prevent the Chiefs from going after Reynolds.
He could have high contract demands because of his successful 2023. This is likely his best opportunity to land a massive deal on the free-agent market.
Kansas City may not even land a wide receiver in free agency. There is a chance the Chiefs go the draft to find the next Rice who can develop alongside Mahomes.
