Video: Chiefs' Travis Kelce Bumps Andy Reid in Heated Super Bowl Sideline Exchange
Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce was not happy after a play during Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers, and he didn't hold back his frustration with head coach Andy Reid.
After Kelce was on the bench for a red-zone play in the second quarter that ended with a fumble by running back Isiah Pacheco, Kelce was seen bumping Reid in a heated sideline confrontation:
Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star noted that Kelce had to be physically restrained by Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon.
It didn't take long for Kelce and Reid to make up, as The Athletic's Mike Jones reported that Kelce hugged his head coach and received a pat on the back later in the first half.
Kelce's frustration also stemmed from the way the 49ers defense has rendered him ineffective. At the time of the confrontation with Reid, Kelce had just one catch for one yard and the Chiefs trailed 3-0 in a defensive battle.
This isn't the first time Kelce hasn't been able to hold back his emotions on the sidelines. During a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day, Kelce was seen throwing his helmet at the bench out of frustration:
For his part, Reid has always supported Kelce not holding back his colorful personality.
"Listen, Travis is always fired up; he's always fired up. But with the playoffs, he's even more so," Reid said after Kelce had 11 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown in the AFC Championship against the Baltimore Ravens. "I never worry about him being ready to go. He's always right there and just brings that emotion to the guys, that just secure feeling that we're going to go get this thing no matter what."
With a championship on the line, it's understandable that Kelce's emotions are high, but it remains to be seen if his outburst will light a spark in the Kansas City offense.
