Report: Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes 'More Dialed in Than Usual' Ahead of Super Bowl 58
Patrick Mahomes has had an excellent postseason, throwing for 718 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in three games while rushing for 75 yards to lead his Kansas City Chiefs back to the Super Bowl.
And yet somehow, the quarterback is reportedly even more hyper-focused than he's already been up to this point, with a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers looming:

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
Mahomes, 28, is having arguably his most impressive postseason run to date. Not only did he lead the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl despite having an inconsistent group of pass-catchers outside of Travis Kelce, but he also had to beat an explosive Miami Dolphins team in the Wild Card Round before facing the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens on the road.
Now, the counterpoint to all of that is that the Chiefs have perhaps their best defense in the Mahomes era. But that defense largely played with the lead against the Dolphins and Ravens after Mahomes got Kansas City off to fast starts.
He's starting to get an aura similar to the one Tom Brady had throughout his career. There were times during Brady's tenure when it didn't feel as though the New England Patriots had the best team in the NFL, yet they always seemed to find a way to be in the championship mix en route to six titles.
Mahomes has started to feel just as inevitable. He almost always has an answer for whatever the defense throws at him, with the ability to make quick reads or fling the ball downfield with his powerful arm. He can extend plays and has never lacked creativity, but he's gotten smarter about limiting his poor decisions and turnovers. And when it all falls apart, he's able to escape the pocket and scramble far more effectively than Brady ever could.
From a pure tools standpoint, he's arguably the most talented quarterback in NFL history. And he's backed up his talent with the ability to come through in the clutch and continuously improve as his career has progressed.
The 49ers are undoubtedly a tough matchup, with the NFL's most talented roster. But the quality of quarterback play often decides Super Bowls, and nobody is going to predict Brock Purdy outplaying Mahomes.
Especially if he's as locked in as reports are suggesting.
