Spencer Dinwiddie Likes Post About Lakers Amid Raptors Contract Buyout Rumors
Point guard Spencer Dinwiddie liked a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that referenced a potential move to the Los Angeles Lakers on the buyout market.
Dinwiddie was acquired by the Toronto Raptors in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, as Dennis Schroder headed to Brooklyn in return. However, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Toronto is planning on waiving the 30-year-old in order to avoid a $1.5 million upcoming bonus in his contract for games played
Later, Charania revealed that the Lakers were among the potential suitors in Dinwiddie during an appearance on Stadium's ITA Trade Deadline Special (1:30:00 mark).
The Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, and Philadelphia 76ers are also reportedly interested in his services. It seems as though Dinwiddie prefers a move to the Lakers and subsequently join forces with LeBron James.
He's been complimentary of the league's all-time leading scorer in the past, claiming that James is the greatest athlete in NBA history "bar none" during a social media post in May 2020.
Playing off the gravity of a superstar like James could mutually benefit Dinwiddie, who has struggled mightily with his efficiency in 2023. In 48 starts, he's averaging a commendable 12.6 points and 6.0 assists per game although he's shooting just 39.1 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from three.
Dinwiddie's ability to get to the paint could also help Los Angeles, as his 8.9 drives per game ranked No. 3 among players on Brooklyn's roster to appear in at least five contests (via NBA.com). The Lakers as a team are averaging just 38.1 drives per game in 2023, the lowest mark in the association.
