LIV Golf's Jon Rahm 'Would Love' a Return to PGA Tour Events After Exit
Jon Rahm left the PGA Tour behind for now when he signed with LIV Golf, but he wouldn't mind a return to some of his usual haunts.
"I'm hoping that in the near future I can be back playing some of those events," Rahm said Tuesday ahead of LIV's event in Las Vegas. "I would certainly love to go back and play some of them.
"If there's ever a way back and a way where we can play, even if it's as an invite, I will take it. There's certain events that are special to me that I would still love to support."
Rahm, a native of Spain, calls Scottsdale, Arizona, now. The WM Phoenix Open is only days away from teeing off at TPC Scottsdale, leaving the two-time major champion to lament his absence a bit.
"Driving by Phoenix as often as I had to and knowing that I wasn't going to play there, it's definitely emotional," he said. "That's one of the things that I'm going to miss."
This was the bargain Rahm and others signed up for when they aligned with LIV.
Joining the breakaway tour has been highly lucrative for the sport's top stars. Rahm is reportedly due to earn $300 million or more. But that massive payout came at the cost of missing the PGA Tour showpiece events along with the Ryder Cup for players born in Europe.
It's tough to know when Rahm might get the chance to play on the PGA Tour or at the very least select tournaments on the tour schedule.
The proposed merger between the PGA Tour and LIV continues to drag on with no resolution in sight. If anything, the tour's decision to seek up to $3 billion in outside funding looks like an attempt to either improve its leverage in the deal or fend off the merger altogether.
For the foreseeable future, Rahm will have to buy a ticket if he wants to attend the WM Phoenix Open.
