Report: Chiefs' Joe Thuney Has 'Slim' Chance to Play in Super Bowl with Pec Injury
The Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship Game over the Baltimore Ravens without offensive lineman Joe Thuney, and they may have to do the same against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Nate Taylor of The Athletic said Thuney is "gonna try really hard" to play through a pectoral injury but added that he believes "the odds are slim" that he takes the field.

If Thuney can't play, the Chiefs will likely turn toward Nick Allegretti after he filled in admirably against a formidable Ravens defense.
Yet blocking the 49ers' defensive front will be anything but easy given the presence of Nick Bosa, Chase Young, Arik Armstead, Javon Kinlaw, Javon Hargrave and others. At least Allegretti can fall back on the high-stakes experience he just picked up helping lead the Chiefs to a 17-10 victory over Baltimore.
"Nick Allegretti was serviceable, he played up to the level that was necessary against the Baltimore Ravens," Taylor said.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid further confirmed that it will likely be Allegretti and not Thuney Tuesday when he said it is a "long shot" the latter takes the field, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Even with a capable backup, this is still a blow for the Chiefs.
Thuney is a three-time Super Bowl champion who is accustomed to blocking for some of the best quarterbacks in league history on the sport's biggest stage. He won two titles with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots and helped Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs lift the Lombardi Trophy in the 2022 season.
It seems like he will need to rely on his teammates if he is going to add another Super Bowl trophy to his resume this year.
