NFL Coaches Clown Jets QB Zach Wilson's Trade Value: '2-Week Stay at a Best Western'
People within the NFL reportedly don't expect the New York Jets to get much of anything in a potential trade involving quarterback Zach Wilson this coming offseason.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, an anonymous assistant coach joked about Wilson's virtually nonexistent trade value, saying: "I'd give up a two-week stay at a Best Western. I'm not a fan."
An anonymous personnel executive expressed their belief that the Jets can't hope for much more than a Day 3 pick, saying: "Perhaps a team out there felt stronger about him pre-draft, and that could influence how they value him. [Otherwise], maybe they could ask for something on Day 3—a mid-Day 3."

A scout suggested that the Jets' best offer may be a seventh-round pick "if they're lucky," and a second personnel exec brought up the idea of New York trading Wilson for a conditional 2025 draft pick, such as one that can become a fourth-rounder if he plays at least 50 percent of snaps for his new team.
Given that the Jets used the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft to select him, the second executive declared that they "will never get the value they want" in a straight-up trade involving Wilson.
After an impressive collegiate career at BYU, the Jets took a chance on Wilson, but they essentially decided after his first two NFL seasons that he wasn't the guy.
Over the course of those two campaigns, Wilson went 8-14 as a starter and completed just 55.2 percent of his passes for 4,022 yards, 15 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
Based on the lack of success from Wilson and the team as a whole, the Jets took a big swing prior to the 2023 season, acquiring future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.
Hopes were high in the Big Apple that the Jets would return to the playoffs for the first time since 2010, but Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles tear on New York's first offensive series of the season, pressing Wilson back into action.
Wilson didn't fare much better in 2023 than he did the previous two seasons, as he appeared in 12 games an started 11 of them, going 4-7 and completing 60.1 percent of his passing attempts for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns and seven picks.
Head coach Robert Saleh benched Wilson during a 30-0 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 15, and he didn't play again for the rest of the season, as the Jets went with journeymen Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian instead.
Wilson is still just 24 years of age, so it isn't impossible that he could save his career with a change of scenery, but based on what he has shown thus far, expecting anything more than a late draft pick or a pick swap is unrealistic.
