Lakers' Jarred Vanderbilt Will Have Sprained Foot Injury Reevaluated in 3-4 Weeks
Los Angeles Lakers power forward Jarred Vanderbilt has been diagnosed with a right mid-foot sprain and will be reevaluated in approximately three to four weeks.
Vanderbilt's injury came in the Lakers' win over the Boston Celtics on Feb. 1, when Vanderbilt had 10 points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes.
This season, Vanderbilt is averaging 5.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, playing 20 minutes per game off the bench.
Vanderbilt's injury adds to a growing list of key absences for the Lakers. Point guard Gabe Vincent has been out since late December and will continue to be out for an extended time period after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Small forward Cam Reddish has been out since late January with a sprained ankle. On top of those injuries, stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are both listed as day-to-day on the Lakers' injury report.
Los Angeles is sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference at 26-25. A recent two-game winning streak against the Celtics and Knicks has helped, but the Lakers are still firmly on the cusp of missing the playoffs with the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets just behind them.
With the trade deadline just days away, the Lakers could be looking to make some moves to aid their roster as they deal with injuries. According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Bobby Marks, Los Angeles isn't willing to take on a third max-contract player unless they are an All-NBA player, which would eliminate Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray, who has been linked to the Lakers.
With that being the case, the Lakers could still push to add some depth and role players around James and Davis at the deadline.
