NFL Rumors: Raiders Weren't Willing to Give Kliff Kingsbury 3-Year Contract to Be OC
Kliff Kingsbury jilted the Las Vegas Raiders to become offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders, and it was reportedly a contract dispute that caused his change of heart.
ESPN's Adam Schefter explained during Monday's episode of the Pat McAfee Show that the Raiders didn't offer Kingsbury the three-year deal he was seeking and ended up receiving from the Commanders.

Schefter went on to explain that Kingsbury landing with the Raiders was not a done deal, and talks collapsed in a rare instance.
"98 percent, 99 percent of the time, they're able to resolve their differences so that when it's reported that a team is expected to hire [someone], that deal is gonna get done," Schefter said. "In this particular case, the rare case, it didn't."
Reports surfaced on Thursday that Kingsbury was expected to be hired to the Raiders' staff under head coach Antonio Pierce. However, his agent told Schefter on Saturday that he withdrew himself from consideration for the offensive coordinator position in Las Vegas. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler later reported that former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is now expected to fill the role with the Raiders.
Kingsbury most recently served as a senior offensive analyst at USC, where he had a hand in the development of 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. Landing in Washington under newly hired head coach Dan Quinn presents an interesting scenario, as the Commanders have the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft and could be in the running to select Williams.
It will be interesting to see if Kingsbury's position in Washington influences Williams' desires for his NFL career as the draft approaches.
