Senior Bowl 2024: Results and Prospects Who Boosted Draft Stock at Showcase

Joe TanseyFeb 4, 2024

Spencer Rattler entered college football as one of the top quarterback recruits in his class, but he did not maintain that high ranking at the end of his collegiate career.

The South Carolina quarterback did his best at the Senior Bowl to bolster his draft stock to potentially make him a lock to be picked in the middle rounds in April.

Rattler was named the Senior Bowl MVP in the American's 16-7 win over National in Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday.

Rattler was one of a few players who bolstered their draft stock after a week at the event for upperclassmen.

Of course, the top-performing quarterback will receive the most attention, but a few defensive players stood out as well.

Spencer Rattler entered Mobile off the list of top quarterbacks entered into the 2024 NFL draft.

Bleacher Report's NFL scouting department did not have the South Carolina signal-caller ranked in the top eight at his position.

Rattler outperformed Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr., two potential first-round selections, throughout the week in Mobile.

NFL.com's Eric Edholm pointed out that Rattler showed few flaws throughout the few days of practice and in the game itself.

"He threw a pick on the first day of practice this week but otherwise had a very respectable showing, arguably as the most consistent QB throughout the week," Edholm said.

Rattler started two seasons at Oklahoma and then moved to South Carolina, where he dropped off the national radar a bit.

He threw for 3,000 yards in both seasons with the Gamecocks and threw 37 touchdowns in that two-year span. He also cut down his interceptions total from 12 to eight this season.

He is still expected to be a Day 2 quarterback at best, but Rattler likely moved ahead of at least one or two quarterbacks on most draft boards with his consistency in Mobile.

Braden Fiske

Braden Fiske was a part of history on Saturday.

The Florida State defensive lineman became the first player to be traded at the Senior Bowl.

The move to the National Team due to a shortage of healthy players did not faze Fiske, and he finished off an incredible week with four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a half-sack.

Fiske stood out to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah throughout the week while he practiced for the American Team.

"After watching Fiske make play after play the last few days, I'm really looking forward to doing more work on his game film. He doesn't have ideal length (31-inch arms), but he showed excellent first-step quickness in practices and knows how to use his hands to his advantage. He was disruptive all week long," Jeremiah wrote.

B/R's NFL scouting department ranked Fiske as the No. 18 defensive lineman in the draft class back in January.

Fiske is likely a mid-round selection, but if he impressed enough NFL scouts in Mobile, he could hear his name called on Day 2.

Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

Jarvis Brownlee Jr. made one of the more notable defensive plays on Saturday.

The Louisville cornerback intercepted a pass with the American defense backed up close to its own end zone.

The interception capped a fantastic week for the defensive back, who stood out to Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema.

"Brownlee has had a very good week in Mobile. In fact, he might be the biggest riser of any player at any position," Sikkema wrote.

Brownlee was not ranked by the B/R NFL scouting department on their January big board. Twenty-two other cornerbacks were ranked on the big board.

The Louisville product will likely move ahead of some players in the coming weeks thanks to his Senior Bowl performance.

A Day 2 selection is not out of the question after his stellar week in Alabama.
