Mikal Bridges Trade Rumors: Pelicans 'Known' to Have Made 'Serious Offer' to Nets
The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly "known to have made a serious offer" for Brooklyn Nets forward Mikal Bridges, according to The Action Network's Matt Moore.
According to Moore, the Nets have received offers of five first-round picks for Bridges, but the Pelicans were "likewise rebuffed." Moore noted that he's skeptical of the claims that the Pelicans offered such a high price for Bridges.
"Two league sources said the Nets have claimed multiple offers of five first-rounders for Mikal Bridges, but I'm pretty skeptical on that front," Moore wrote. "One, it might be five 'firsts' with swaps and/or heavily protected picks, and if the offer was really five firsts, why share that and then continue to say they are not interested in trading Mikal Bridges?"
This season, Bridges is averaging 21.9 points, five rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. The sixth-year player's scoring numbers are slightly down from the 26.1 points per game he averaged after joining the Nets halfway through the year last season, but he is still the clear leader of a young Brooklyn team.
If the Pelicans' rumored offer of multiple first-round picks for Bridges is true, they wouldn't be the only team willing to trade away some of their future for him. According to The Athletic's Kelly Iko, Shams Charania and Sam Amick, the Houston Rockets also offered Brooklyn a handful of first-round picks for Bridges, but the Nets have "zero interest" in dealing him.
It's not clear at this point whether Bridges will be on the move before the Feb. 8 trade deadline, but the 27-year-old will be looking to keep up his production wherever he is for the rest of the season.
