Agent: Manny Pacquiao Would Love to Fight Conor McGregor, Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia
Manny Pacquiao retired from professional boxing in 2021, but the 45-year-old veteran is open to a return for the right opponent.
Pacquiao has had multiple exhibition fights since retiring, but his agent Sean Gibbons told Manouk Akopyan of BoxingScene.com that Pac-Man would potentially return to the pro ranks to face Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia or UFC star Conor McGregor:
"Technically he's out of retirement. He would love to fight Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia. He's got about a year left. He just wants to fight. Manny feels that he's in tremendous shape. He's training for this exhibition but hopefully that will lead to something bigger and better. I do [see a pro return for Pacquiao].
"One of the fights that people talked about for a long time was Manny Pacquiao vs. Conor McGregor. That's something that will be sensational in Saudi Arabia, let's go. It will be a good place to do it. It's really simple. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, [the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia], loves big events, and he's putting on the best events. It's a very intriguing and fun fight bringing two of the biggest names together in combat sports."
Pacquiao is a former eight-division world champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of his generation, but he has not competed in a pro bout since suffering a unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugรกs in 2021.
While McGregor is preparing for his return to the UFC Octagon against Michael Chandler in June, he is no stranger to massive crossover fights in the boxing ring.
McGregor's first and only professional boxing match to date was against undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017.
While McGregor lost the fight by technical knockout in the 10th round, he acquitted himself well and was ahead on the scorecards for some of the fight.
McGregor has not had a UFC fight since suffering a broken leg during a loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021, but once he gets back in the groove, it could conceivably open the door for other opportunities, such as a clash with Pacquiao.
In terms of legitimate boxers, Davis and Garcia are two of the biggest names in the sport currently, and either of them could do big business with a returning Pacquiao.
The 29-year-old Davis is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world currently, as he is 29-0 with 27 wins by way of knockout, and holds the WBA lightweight title.
In his most recent bout, Davis beat Garcia by seventh-round knockout, handing Garcia his first career loss.
Garcia, 25, is 24-1 and bounced back nicely from the Davis loss, defeating Oscar Duarte by eighth-round knockout in December.
It can be argued that Garcia would be a better matchup for Pacquiao than Davis since he doesn't possess the same type of punching power as Davis, which could allow Pacquiao to at least be more competitive.
While it is unclear how much Pacquiao has left in the tank in a professional setting, he beat some name fighters in the later stages of his pro career, including Lucas Matthyse, Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman.
The 62-8-2 Pacquiao is currently preparing for an exhibition fight against Buakaw Banchamek in Thailand, and he has teased an exhibition bout against Mayweather as well, per Akopyan.
Pacquiao has nothing left to prove, having established himself as a Hall of Fame boxer long ago, but if he is going to break back into the professional ranks, it sounds as though it will take a big-name opponent to draw him in.
