Report: Chiefs' Joe Thuney 'In Danger' of Missing Super Bowl vs. 49ers with Injury
Joe Thuney's pectoral injury could keep him out of the lineup for the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Per The Athletic's Jeff Howe, Thuney is "in danger" of missing the Super Bowl due to the injury he suffered in Kansas City's win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round.
There has been some confusion about the exact injury Thuney suffered. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Jan. 28 he received "varying opinions" about it, with some experts believing it's torn pec and others believing it's a strain.

Rapoport noted Thuney's availability for the Super Bowl was "considered a long-shot." The injury appeared to occur in the fourth quarter against the Bills. He was initially designated as questionable to return with a chest injury.
Thuney has been a staple of Kansas City's offensive line since signing with the team as a free agent in March 2021. He's started 49 regular-season games over the past three years, including all 17 in 2023.
The 31-year-old has been named to the All-Pro team in back-to-back years. He earned a first-team selection this year and was the best pass-blocking guard in the NFL.
Kansas City's offensive line did a great job of holding up against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. Nick Allegretti played all 81 snaps at left guard in place of Thuney.
Patrick Mahomes was only sacked twice and lost 11 yards. The Chiefs were able to control the clock for almost 38 minutes to keep Baltimore's offense off the field in a 17-10 win to reach the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five seasons.
Thuney did not participate in any practices this week for the Chiefs, but he's still officially listed as questionable.
The Chiefs still have another week to make a decision about Thuney's availability. Super Bowl 58 will be played on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium.
