Super Bowl 2024: Date, Media Day Schedule for 49ers vs. Chiefs
Super Bowl week is here, football fans. Next Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII. It's a matchup that many might have expected back during the preseason, and it's poised to be a fantastic one.
Fans may have to wait a week for the on-field action to unfold, but there's plenty of excitement to be consumed in the coming days.
After all, the NFL world is converging on Las Vegas, a city already bursting at the seams with activities. Events like media day and the NFL's Super Bowl Experience will further pack the upcoming events calendar.
Below, we'll examine the schedule for Super Bowl week, dive into some of the events and preview media day, now known as Super Bowl Opening Night.
Super Bowl Opening Night
1 of 3
Date: Monday, February 5
Time: 8 p.m. ET
Location: Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas
TV and Live Stream: NFL Network, CBS Sports Network
Fans in town for Super Bowl week can attend the opening-night event at Allegiant Stadium. According to the venue's official website, the doors are scheduled to open at 3 p.m. local time (6 p.m. ET), though the first team won't take the stage until 5 p.m. local (8 p.m. ET).
During the event, members of the media will interview players and coaches from both teams, and this year's matchup features no shortage of storylines.
The 49ers and Chiefs met four years ago in Super Bowl LIV. While both rosters have changed dramatically since then, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan were both involved.
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes earned his first Super Bowl victory in that game, and he's not surprised to be facing the 49ers again.
"I knew when we played them that time they were a great team and would probably get back," Mahomes told Kansas City's The Drive 610 AM (h/t Cam Inman of the Mercury News). "You never know that you'll get back. The fact we're both back in the Super Bowl and playing each other again, it'll be a great challenge for us.
Expect Super Bowl LIV to be a discussion topic for both head coaches and players who were part of it—like Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel.
Fans can expect both starting quarterbacks to be heavily discussed as well. Mahomes is about to play in his fourth Super Bowl in six seasons as a full-time starter. He's already compiled a Hall of Fame-worthy career, and he's only 28 years old.
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, meanwhile, was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 draft. He helped San Francisco reach the NFC title game last year, and he was a Pro Bowler in his second season.
Fair or not, both quarterbacks are sure to draw comparisons to the legendary Tom Brady throughout Super Bowl week.
Teams may provide a few relatively vague injury updates on Monday as well, but don't expect any open discussion of strategy. We'll have to wait until February 11 to see how the Chiefs and 49ers plan to win. Nevertheless, Monday's event will serve as a fun preview of what's to come.
