There's a long-standing connection between Lewis and Jackson.
Lewis was the Bengals' head coach from 2003-2018. Jackson worked on his staff from 2004-2006 as the wide receivers coach. He returned from 2012-2015 and served as secondary assistant and special teams assistant coach (2012), running backs coach (2013) and offensive coordinator (2014 and 2015). Jackson came back in 2018 as special assistant head coach.
The 58-year-old Jackson is currently Grambling State's head coach, going 8-14 over the past two seasons. He was the Oakland Raiders' head coach in 2011 (8-8) and the Cleveland Browns' head coach from 2016-2018 (3-36-31).
Jackson has 35 years of collegiate and NFL coaching experience. If hired, Jackson would work under head coach Antonio Pierce, who got the team's full-time job in Jan. 19. Pierce took over for the fired Josh McDaniels during the 2023 midseason and went 5-4 to close out the year.
Pierce has been hard at working creating a new offensive coaching staff, reportedly hiring ex-Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury to be the team's next offensive coordinator, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Las Vegas is looking to bounce back on that side of the ball after finishing just 23rd in points and 26th in yards per play, per Pro Football Reference.
