NBA Rumors: Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo 'Spoke Up' in Heat Meeting amid Losing Streak
The Miami Heat finally snapped their seven-game losing streak on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings after Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo delivered a message to the team.
Appearing on FanDuel TV's Run it Back, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Adebayo and Butler "spoke up" during a team meeting on Tuesday to address their recent struggles.
It looked like the Heat were poised to make a big move up the Eastern Conference standings in December. They had four consecutive wins that moved them a season-high seven games over .500 (19-12) and in sole possession of the No. 4 seed on Dec. 28.
Over their next 16 games, though, the Heat only managed to go 5-11. They did lose to some good teams during that stretch, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers.
The Heat lost seven consecutive games from Jan. 17-29. The streak began with losses to the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors, who are currently a combined 20 games under .500 and rank in the bottom half of the NBA in defensive rating.
Miami attempted to address its offensive woes on Jan. 23 by acquiring Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets for Kyle Lowry and a lottery-protected 2027 first-round draft pick.
Rozier has thus far struggled in his new home with 10.0 points per game on 34.5 percent shooting from the field. He only had three points against the Kings, but made his presence felt with 10 assists.
Miami's 115 points on Wednesday night were its most in a game since putting up 120 against the Thunder on Jan. 10.
Sacramento was held to 44.1 percent shooting overall and 12-of-40 from three-point range against the Heat defense.
Butler seemed to take matters into his own hands to end the losing streak on Wednesday night. He scored 31 points, which was the first time he had more than 30 since Miami's last win on Jan. 15, and shot 10-of-14 from the field.
