Caitlin Clark Knocked to Floor by Fan Storming Court on Video after OSU Upsets Iowa

Joseph ZuckerJan 21, 2024

Iowa star Caitlin Clark collided with an Ohio State fan on the court after the Buckeyes' 100-92 victory on Sunday.

OSU fans stormed the court at the final buzzer. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a video of Clark making her way to the tunnel and running into a fan:

Clark addressed the incident in her postgame press conference:

This comes less than two weeks after Purdue men's basketball coach Matt Painter said he thought schools and the Big Ten needed to do more to prepare for students and fans to storm the court. Painter explained he wasn't against the celebration itself but that more steps are needed to protect the health and safety of the players.

Sunday's moment is likely to lead to more calls for banning court-storming outright, though. It's a conversation that extends beyond basketball, with critics calling for the end of its equivalent in football. The SEC has begun levying significant bans on the schools that see their fans storm the field.

Between Painter's comments and what happened Sunday in Columbus, the Big Ten may now feel compelled to act.

The fan's collision with Clark will take some of the spotlight away from what was a great game.

Celeste Taylor put Ohio State ahead 83-82 with 16 seconds left in overtime before Hannah Stuelke sank one of her two free throws to draw Iowa level. The Buckeyes pulled away in overtime despite the best efforts of Clark, who dropped a season-high 45 points along with seven assists and two steals.
