Lakers Rumors: Bruce Brown, Jerami Grant, Terry Rozier Among LA's Trade Targets

zach bacharJan 19, 2024

The Los Angeles Lakers will have their eyes on several players to acquire via trade ahead of the Feb. 8 deadline.

The Lakers are interested in targeting Toronto Raptors guard Bruce Brown, Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant, Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier, Raptors wing Gary Trent Jr. as well as Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O'Neale of the Brooklyn Nets, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

Although Los Angeles is focused on Brown, the team's pursuit of the defensive-minded guard will likely come down to Toronto's willingness to move on from him.

Buha reported the Lakers front office attempted to sign the 27-year-old in free agency and "believed they were the favorites" to bring him in on the non-taxpayer mid-level exception before the Indiana Pacers offered him a two-year, $45 million contract in July 2023.

At 6'4", Brown is an excellent rebounder who can defend multiple positions. He's proved himself in the postseason as well, averaging 26.5 minutes per game and shooting 51.1 percent from the field during the Denver Nuggets' playoff run that ultimately ended with a championship last season.

One issue that could stall a deal with Los Angeles is that Brown cannot be combined with another player in a trade since he was part of the package that brought All-Star forward Pascal Siakam to Indiana.

The Lakers could also target a forward that can space the floor around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Grant and Finney-Smith fit the bill as they're currently shooting 41.2 percent and 40.1 percent from three this season, respectively.

If Los Angeles is looking for a tertiary scorer who can run the team's offense when its two stars are taking a breather, Rozier is an intriguing option. He's averaging a career-high 24.0 points per game for the Hornets this year, shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from behind the arc.

With several possible targets, it's fair to expect the Lakers to be one of the busier teams ahead of the deadline.
