NFL Rumors: Marcus Mariota, Commanders Agree to 1-Year Contract After Eagles Stint
Make it four teams for Marcus Mariota in as many seasons.
The veteran quarterback reportedly signed with the Washington Commanders Tuesday on a one-year, $6 million contract, with incentives that can take it up to $10 million, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Mariota, 30, started his career with the Tennessee Titans after being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

He never lived up to those lofty expectations, however, going just 29-32 as the starter across five seasons with the team while throwing for 76 touchdowns and 44 interceptions. He was a threat as a runner, rushing for 1,399 yards and 11 touchdowns with Tennessee.
From there, Mariota spent two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders (2020-21), though he served as Derek Carr's backup and never started a game.
He then spent a season with the Atlanta Falcons, going 5-8 as the starter while throwing for 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 438 yards and four scores but was ultimately demoted in favor of Desmond Ridder and promptly left the team to have knee surgery.
In 2023, he served as Jalen Hurts' backup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
At this point in his career, Mariota is a backup-level quarterback, and with Sam Howell on the roster and Washington likely selecting a quarterback with the second-overall pick in the NFL Draft, this signing is surely about filling out the depth chart.
