Braves, President Alex Anthopoulos Agree to Contract Extension Through 2031 Season
Alex Anthopoulos will remain in Atlanta for the foreseeable future.
The Atlanta Braves and their president of baseball operations have agreed to a multiyear extension through the 2031 season, the franchise announced Friday.
Braves chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk said in a statement:
"Alex and I have enjoyed a wonderful working relationship, and I look forward to that continuing for many years to come. I have been around this game a very long time and know that Alex's track record of success is truly something special. There is simply no one better in the business. This extension gives Alex the runway to make long-term decisions and the opportunity to continue his track record of assembling teams that are perennial contenders. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to deliver championship baseball for our fans well into the future."
Anthopoulos joined the Braves in November 2017 as executive vice president and general manager. He was promoted to president of baseball operations in February 2020 and has also retained the GM role.
His contract was set to expire after the 2024 season.
Anthopoulos has been the architect of Atlanta's success, using the trade market and signing players to long-term deals to build a perennial World Series contender. He was named Executive of the Year in 2022.
Under Anthopoulos, the Braves are 515-354 with six National League East titles and a 2021 World Series championship. Entering 2024, he has built a roster that includes Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Jarred Kelenic, Michael Harris II, Ronald Acuรฑa Jr., Charlie Morton and Spencer Strider.
Prior to joining the Braves, Anthopoulos served as vice president of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also served as general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays.
