NFL Rumors: Mike Vrabel Linked to Raiders, Patriots, Chargers, More After Titans Exit

Paul KasabianJan 11, 2024

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel may be out of a job after his old team parted ways with him on Tuesday, but that may not be the case for long.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini and Joe Rexrode, "Vrabel is expected to be a hot commodity for other NFL job openings — including in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington and New England."

The Patriots' opening is one to watch. Vrabel played with the Pats from 2001-2008, winning three Super Bowls as a linebacker. He was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in October.

The door is open for Vrabel to walk into his old home now that his ex-head coach, Bill Belichick, has parted ways with the franchise after 24 years. Robert Kraft, who has owned the team for three decades, is still aboard and clearly has plenty of respect for Vrabel given his Hall of Fame induction.

However, there are still six other openings (not including the Titans and Pats) out there in the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks).

Given Vrabel's past success, he's sure to be a hot candidate elsewhere. He coached the Titans for six seasons, posting winning seasons in his first four. The Titans made the AFC Championship Game in 2019 and won the AFC South in 2020 and 2021.

The end of his tenure didn't go well, with a seven-game losing streak to end 2022 and a 6-11 record in 2023. Still, Vrabel's tenure as a whole featured more good than bad, and he should certainly get a second chance elsewhere.
