Toronto Maple Leafs: Auston Matthews
Washington Capitals: Tom Wilson
Eastern Conference Roster Highlights
It's no surprise Auston Matthews finds himself back in the All-Star Game, especially with the action taking place at the Maple Leafs' Scotiabank Arena.
Matthews has been arguably the best player in the NHL this season as he leads the league with 30 goals and has also notched 15 assists for 45 points in 35 games played. This also marks his eighth straight season with at least 30 goals and he's on pace to surpass his 2022-23 total of 40 goals.
In part thanks to Matthews, the Maple Leafs are third in the Atlantic Division with a 19-10-7 record and remain in contention for a top playoff spot.
The same can also be said for Lightning star Nikita Kucherov, who ranks first in the NHL with 63 points and second in the league with 27 goals.
Through the early goings, Kucherov kept the Lightning afloat in the Atlantic Division in the absence of star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Although Vasilevskiy has returned, Kucherov continues to excel and has helped the Bolts to an 18-16-5 record.
2024 NHL All-Star Game Western Conference Roster
Anaheim Ducks: Frank Vatrano
Arizona Coyotes: Clayton Keller
Calgary Flames: Elias Lindholm
Chicago Blackhawks: Connor Bedard
Colorado Avalanche: Nathan MacKinnon
Dallas Stars: Jake Oettinger
Edmonton Oilers: Connor McDavid
Los Angeles Kings: Cam Talbot
Minnesota Wild: Kirill Kaprizov
Nashville Predators: Filip Fosberg
San Jose Sharks: Tomas Hertl
Seattle Kraken: Oliver Bjorkstrand
St. Louis Blues: Robert Thomas
Vancouver Canucks: Quinn Hughes
Vegas Golden Knights: Jack Eichel
Winnipeg Jets: Connor Hellebuyck
Western Conference Roster Highlights
Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid is a staple in the All-Star Game, so it's no surprise he was picked in the initial 32.
McDavid ranks third in the NHL with 53 points, tallying 14 goals and 39 assists through 33 games. While he's not quite on pace to match his 2022-23 point total of 153 points, McDavid should eclipse 100 points for the fourth straight season and seventh time in his career.
While the Oilers got out to a slow start this season due to poor goaltending, the team has rebounded and currently sits fourth in the Pacific Division with a 19-15-1 record.
It's also no surprise the Colorado Avalanche phenom Nathan MacKinnon is a lock for the All-Star Game. He ranks second in the NHL with 61 points, notching 20 goals and 41 assists in 38 games.
MacKinnon is on pace for a career year after notching 111 points in 2022-23 and he has been a big reason why Colorado is atop the Central Division with a 24-11-3 record.
2024 All-Star Game Format
The 2024 NHL All-Star Game will be a little different in terms of format.
Since 2016, the league has played the All-Star Game with four teams based on the league's four divisions in a three-on-three, single-elimination tournament. For example, the Atlantic Division won the 2023 ASG and the Metropolitan Division won the 2022 event.
For the 2024 All-Star Game, the league announced the return of the player draft, which eliminates divisions and will allow players from the Eastern and Western Conferences to play on the same team.
Celebrities will be paired with captains and four teams of 11 players (nine skaters, two goalies) will be selected.
The NHL previously utilized a player draft for a two-team format in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
The 2024 format will remain a three-on-three, single-elimination tournament.
The 2024 All-Star Weekend kicks off on Feb. 1 with the player draft and concludes on Feb. 3 with the All-Star Game. The Skills Competition will take place on Feb. 2 and there will be a 3-on-3 Professional Women's Hockey League Showcase following the player draft on Feb. 1.
